WHATS IN A WORD?
The Etymology of Trans...
Alchemy. That's what's in a word. TRANSMUTATION. The raison d’etre of the medieval Alchemist. To turn base material into the finest most valuable material. To change THINGS.
TRANSformation. Turning one thing into another thing.
TRANsition. The process of leaving one state of being and entering another.
TRANSmission. The activity of perpetuating ideas, knowledge and mores.
TRANSpose. Changing one thing for another.
TRANSvestite. The practice of wearing the clothes that your culture allots to the other gender, the one you are not.
TRANSgressive. Behaviour that breaks actual laws, social laws and offends against social order.
Such is the ALCHEMY of the prefix trans. It's all about change in so many different ways. A METAMORPHOSIS to please all those ancient dabblers in the Black Arts. Maybe we still have ALCHEMISTS in our Contemporary Society.
