How we got here from there.

Care in the Community was Enoch Powells idea. Simon Heffer the author of this biography quotes from Powells own proposals all held IN THE ARCHIVES. It's fact. And Powells proposal written in the early 1960s is exactly how it was explained to us in the 1980s. People with mental health issues,be that permanent or temporary would no longer be chained to an iron bedstead in a grim old Victorian asylum,a place of isolation and horror,they would all live in family size groups of about six in cute little cottages,well the semi detached house next door to you or across the road, and you being a nice,kind Christian you'd make friends with them and by your benign community influence raise them to your high worth level of humanity. Every day a nice lady social worker would come to their house and ensure they lived in nice,clean,tidy and bourgeois comfort because as founder of The Big Issue (mostly sold by headscarved Roma ladies now) John Bird emphasizes they are JUST LIKE US. They need a Hand Up not a Hand Out. A bit of bad luck cast them down but they actually aspire to the same ikea-bourgeois suburban Terry and June life you have. Never mind that you REALLY WANT to ditch your Terry and June life,grow your hair long and bike on a wild ride over the Mountain passes and then live in a tumbledown stone bothy on the wild moors and write a book about your healing journey. But they are NOT LIKE US. Some purely because they don't want to be. Some because they can't be. It takes a lot of self control,will power and sense of duty to keep money in reserve to pay bills that all come in throughout each month. Lots of us “normies”.find it hard to keep on top of it. (But I'm not actually a Normie,as has been impressed on me all my life).[ Then they hate it when you take their word,run with it,and have a better life than them - that's not supposed to happen]. Powells proposal was that when all the sad inmates were happily integrated into the warm,caring,sharing community,all good friends and jolly good company that then the old Victorian asylums,those horror film image places,could be demolished and the land used for social housing. Ha ha heard that one before. What actually happened when Margaret Thatcher resurrected Powells idea,- she admitted it,was that all the beautiful old Victorian buildings that were stunning architecture got sold to private developers who made them into luxury apartments in private grounds and the “houses” didn't last long. The inmates soon gravitated to the streets,and now Care In The Community means Sleeping In A Shop Doorway. It's hard to share a house with one other person,let alone five others. They steal your stuff. They eat your food. They do drugs. They drink. As you do. In fact you can't not. (Not my personal experience but from the odd conversation). No one does the garden. That's why there is a happy Badger Sett in there. (True story). As for the nice lady social worker who it was IMPLIED would come in every day,clean,make the beds,see the kitchen was well stocked,well actually that is a tatted,pierced and braided teenage young woman in grunge gear who pops in once a month to ask “you all OK here guys” ,ticks box and goes. (Again,true story). It was under the Ministership of - Enoch Powell ( he of Enoch was right) that adverts went up in Jamaica in the Caribbean advertising a host of well paid high status professional jobs in UK ripe for plucking and suggesting Jamaican young men and women of initiative and ability of which there were plenty get a cheap ticket (still quite expensive on Jamaican money) to England a pluck those jobs. It was under the Ministership of Enoch Powell that this initiative was launched. Why is that never mentioned? So HOW STRANGE that over a decade later he hit the headlines,lost his political career and became a HATE FIGURE by his Rivers of Blood speech. And no media comment has ever mentioned that HE CREATED THE SITUATION! It's that weird Media Amnesia like how it's now totally forgotten that Diana,late Princess of Wales had got the whole world (except America) ready to sign an agreement to ban the use of land mines and in particular a new variant called “cluster bombs” which are even nastier. And,AW she died just a few days before so no one signed anything and that made Bill Clinton smile for sure. It would have looked so bad not signing before the glowing gaze of Beauty Incarnate. He would have looked like a kitten strangler. Phew!

Mrs Thatcher took up more of the social policies that Enoch Powell drew up in the 1960s but the zeitgeist and the social climate then made it impossible for these ideas to be implemented,let alone taken up. What I am saying here is backed up in the archives. In letters,notes,and recorded words of the persons, plus in government documents held in the Public Record Office. Did The Sun or The Daily Mirror or Mail ever reference this. The ideas now being put in place probably have as long a history but I'm now so out of touch I dont even know what's now legal or not. Our current political administration doesn't seem to bother with time wasting debate or Parliament any more. At least I never hear of debates or discussions and pre-covid the BBC kept us informed of everything going through Parliament. Now on my radio I hear…the government have amended this law to make doing X a crime…a new law has been put in place to make Y mandatory….legal protection has been removed from Z so more houses can be built…. But I will do an Enoch was Right - - he thought that The Welfare State and the NHS was a complete scam and a con and it was. It was a huge chunk of red meat thrown out of a moving truck to engage the working class,the biggest sector of the pre-war populace while the Uppers worked behind the scenes to reinstall their (now disguised) supremacy. If you read “Quartered Safe Out Here” by GM Fraser his account of being a teenage soldier in Burma surrounded by older men in arms,all farm labourers from the Cumbrian Fells where his father was the local doctor then you will realise how deep the anger and resentment went. These men knew exactly what was going on and who was doing it. It took a HUGE OFFERING that cost every penny of our Marshall Aid to offer a BRIBE big enough to settle them back. Just like it took a HUGE OFFERING in terms of money and blood to CREATE one element in WW2 that was to be brought into play later and that was put in place for that purpose. A LIE has to be SO BIG no normal person could conceive of a LIE so big. To make a BIG LIE into fact you have to create the JUSTIFICATION of all justifications.
