7.35pm on Wednesday the 12th of August 2026. An unrelentingly sunny day. I'm at home doing this, doing that. Because I LIKE being in my home. Because I'm a Trad….Spinster. Anyway come 6pm I wasn't groping around in a world plunged into darkness as the overhyped excitement of the radio voices this morning were fantasising. But,I've put the speech radio on. “ How was it for you” the radio host is asking. He’s jolly,he's upbeat,he's ebullient. This is the most exciting thing to happen to our nation in a thousand years - and nothing actually happened! Like my sex life! But wait,our breathless friend is saying that thousands of Brits saw the awesome spectacle. THEY WERE ALL CRAMMED ON A BEACH NEAR BARCELONA. And as “it” happened the noddies all burst into cheering and applause. Like the SUN was a COVID nurse. Do they do that every time a cloud goes over the Sun at home. There is a solar eclipse somewhere in the World every day. It's not a magic phenomenon and science has worked it out long ago. Now I know that here I am belying my own words in favour of ENCHANTMENT and seeing magic in the everyday around us. But this feels FAKE and indeed the Merry Mixer now came out with the REAL AGENDA. “All those people who saw that wonder of the skies will have a renewed interest in and love of science.” It's important that Andy Burnham ( interesting that he's never “the Prime Minister” he's your mate and mine ,Andy) funds a lot of science. We need tons more science. Now I doubt that the radio host is saying this out of his own personal ideas even though he may concur with it. He's been told to say this,to promote this angle. And in a world where Growth for us does not lay in manufacturing maybe high tech is the way to go. For boring jobs. Being a lab technician with your eye glued to a microscope all day must be the most boring job out. The level of excitement at this mundane occurrence,in the media was so extreme I knew there had to be another agenda behind it.
